When the Workout Brings Out the Crowd
OVER HILLS, OVER DALES Cunningham Park in Queens is one of three city parks with new legal mountain biking trails that opened this year. Riders meet at 8:45 a.m. at the park’s trailhead, near the Bayside Station of the Long Island Rail Road, for Sunday morning rides on a 6.5-mile single-track loop. Sponsored by Peak Bicycle Pro Shop in Douglaston, N.Y., the ride is suitable for beginners through experts. “We give some guidance on how to get over things like boulders and logs,” said Jerry Emerson, the owner. (www .peakmtnbike.com) The two other city parks with legal mountain biking are Highbridge Park in Upper Manhattan and, opening July 14, Wolfe’s Pond Park in Staten Island.
